Supporting the HSYC Mission
Every year in America, over eight million adoptable animals are put to sleep; over 6,500 right here in York County! The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) has been rescuing stray and abandoned pets in York, Lancaster, and Mecklenburg counties for over forty years. Last year, we found loving homes for almost 1,000 pets.
Our non-profit no-kill shelter relies on contributions from the community as we work to meet our monthly expenses of $53,000+. These costs include medical care, food and housing for the pets we save. Our medical and spay/neuter costs alone in our 2015-16 fiscal year were over $138,000! And cost continue to rise.
We are supported solely by donations from caring groups and individuals, proceeds from our thrift shop, grants, fundraisers, and pet adoption fees. We receive no funding from the Humane Society of the United States or the local government.
