We are located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and serve the greater Charlotte region including York, Lancaster and Mecklenburg counties.

Your donation and support is especially important to us, as we receive NO funding from the city, county or state; and are NOT affiliated with or supported by the Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, or any other animal welfare organization.

Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, and 100% of your donation remains with the HSYC.

Our Mission

Our mission is to find loving fur-ever homes for dogs and cats. We do this through our foster and adoption programs. We also strive to improve animal welfare across our county and region by focusing on community efforts. Our success is measured in the number of pets we can help with the quality of programs and services we provide. These programs are fueled by our dedicated staff, caring volunteers and generous donors like you.

To make sure cats and dogs in York County, SC and surrounding areas are treated in a humane manner, are rescued, and are placed in loving and forever homes by:

  • Increasing dog and cat rescues and adoptions
  • Empowering the environment so pet owners are responsible and accountable for their actions
  • Supporting spay and neuter programs for community dogs and cats
  • Helping members of our community in need of pet food assistance through our pet food pantry Kit Kat's Cupboard
  • Providing a Helping Hands Program to assist with critical treatment for dogs and cats in need
  • Championing community collaboration amongst rescues

Fulfilling our mission of making York County a No-Kill community depends on your involvement and generous donations. Please help us continue to give abandoned animals a second chance. Our team works around the clock to be leaders in the animal welfare community. We are pleased to have been selected as a No Kill South Carolina partner by the Charleston Animal Society.

Our History

1976   |  We were founded in 1976 to help address the needs of an ever-growing animal population. Originally, all animals were cared for in the homes of dedicated volunteers.

1999   |  We moved to a location on Carolina Place in Fort Mill, SC, with the capacity to house 50 cats and about 20 dogs.

2011   |  We were so excited to move into our current location at 8177 Regent Parkway with increased capacity and a beautiful facility. We currently have the capacity to house 120 cats and 40 dogs. We have additional animals in long term foster and fospice (foster hospice).

Today  |  We continue to have a small staff and a group of wonderful volunteers that keep our Rescue and PAWSibilities Thrift Shop running!

We have a responsibility to our community and our donors and work hard to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization.

Our organization takes our privacy policy seriously and takes steps to protect and ensure the safety of our supporters. We do not sell or otherwise disclose information about our volunteers or supporters outside of our immediate organization. This policy has no exceptions. We do not sell or exchange your information with any other organizations, public, private or nonprofit.

We have a responsibility to our community and our donors and work hard to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization.
